Artist KK, born as Ko Kyi in the small town of Aung Lan in 1966, is a monk who uses art to develop mindfulness and express his creativity. His love for art began during his layman life, where he spent much of his time painting, writing poetry, playing music, and reading. Growing up in a small town, it was often hard to find art materials, but this didn’t stop KK from creating. He used recycled materials and even painted with his fingers when no tools were available. For KK, anything around him could become part of his art. Later, he improved his skills with the guidance of a local artist, Sayar U Aung Tun. To KK, art doesn’t need a reason—it is something he simply does. He creates on paper, stone, leaves, and even on the earth, letting his creativity flow naturally. Today, KK’s art reflects his mindfulness and inspires others to see beauty in everyday things.
