Htoo Aung Kyaw, co-founder of Kalasa Art Space, originates from Kyaukpadaung, a charming town along the way to Bagan in the Mandalay region. Armed with a bachelor’s degree in philosophy, he delved into the world of art, particularly painting, at the State School of Fine Art in Yangon. His deep-seated passion for history and philosophy, cultivated since childhood, manifests in his artistic journey. Youthful journeys to Bagan fueled his exploration of its history and the unique mural art embellishing stupas. As an artist, Htoo seamlessly combines his interests, studies, and personal philosophy on canvas, drawing inspiration from the ancient cultures of Pyu and Bagan eras in Myanmar, intertwined with contemporary themes. Firmly believing that "Art is sharing," Htoo imparts concepts and knowledge through his paintings, extending his passion as an art teacher to the next generation. With three years of teaching at the New Zero Art Space and six years instructing orphans, he exemplifies unwavering dedication to art education. Formerly serving as the Editor of Pansodan Art and Culture Journal, Htoo contributed insightful profiles on Myanmar artists and their work. His emotionally charged poems and essays have graced the pages of several magazines. In 2014, Htoo Aung Kyaw introduced his inaugural solo exhibition, "The Nook," at Pansodan Gallery. The second solo exhibition in 2019 at Lokanat Gallery in Yangon focused predominantly on showcasing his installation artwork and collage paintings. Collaboratively, Htoo exhibited alongside French artist Christine Fayon in 2019 and with Indian artist Aymen in 2020 at Kalasa Art Space. Expanding his artistic expression beyond painting, Htoo Aung Kyaw engages in performance art, with his works showcased nationally and internationally in countries such as Taiwan, Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia, Korea, Australia, and France.
